Clinical Consultations

A psychological consultation or a neuropsychological consultation can be requested to obtain objective information and a clinical opinion about a specific concern.

For example, to:

  • Discuss a psychiatric or neurocognitive diagnosis and address adjustment concerns
  • Get a second clinical opinion for treatment purposes
  • Talk about general treatment options and expected outcomes
  • Review and explain the results of a previous psychological or neuropsychological assessment
  • Obtain an opinion as to whether a psychological or neuropsychological assessment would be helpful

Clinical Assessments

Our assessments provide enough time for us to get to know our clients, complete objective psychological and cognitive testing, and develop personalized treatment plans.

Remote cognitive testing is available to clients who live in Alberta but are unable to travel to Calgary. A referral from a physician is required to schedule a remote testing session.

Clinical assessments can be used to:

  • Measure cognitive strengths and weaknesses
  • Evaluate intellectual functioning
  • Identify psychiatric or neurocognitive disorders
  • Help guide medical, psychiatric, or psychological treatment
  • Identify personal targets for cognitive training, psychotherapy, and/or neuropsychological counselling
  • Monitor changes after cognitive training or counselling

Cognitive Training

Psychiatric or medical conditions can reduce cognitive functioning, or the thinking skills that allow us to concentrate, focus, remember information, and manage the more complex tasks of everyday life.

Conditions that can be associated with cognitive difficulties include:

  • Mild traumatic brain injury (concussion)
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Dementia
  • Schizophrenia
  • Mild Cognitive Impairment
  • Normal Brain Aging
  • Chronic Pain
  • Sleep Disorders

Cognitive retraining (also known as cognitive rehabilitation or cognitive remediation) helps address specific problems with cognitive functioning. Our goal is to maximize the effectiveness of cognitive retraining by personalizing the training program to each client, taking into account a client’s overall treatment needs, and assisting clients to apply learned cognitive strategies to real-world functioning.

Psychotherapy and Neuropsychological Counselling

Through individual counselling, we help our clients address and manage mental and physical health challenges that interfere with optimal cognitive functioning.

Some of the benefits of psychotherapy and neuropsychological counselling include:

  • Developing healthy behaviour and lifestyle changes that will help improve or maintain a high level of cognitive function
  • Increasing overall functioning by using cognitive training strategies in everyday life
  • Managing chronic pain or physical illness more effectively
  • Enhancing academic, work, or athletic performance
  • Promoting a flexible and resilient mindset
  • Improving personal effectiveness and the ability to cope with future challenges
